Translation: TV Pia 2008.09.27・It's the Autumn of Brothers (Ninomiya and Nishikido)
It's the Autumn of Brothers
Ninomiya Kazunari x Nishikido Ryo

In the TBS drama starting on 10/17 (Fri.) "Ryuusei no Kizuna," the two of them will be playing real brothers. Their initials starting with N, their quick wit, their handiness, their poison tongues (smile), their image color in their groups is yellow... If you look for them, they have a surprising number of things in common. Shy of each other, while measuring the distance [between them] as well, line them up and they're already getting along so well, it's those guys happy and embarrassing first talk.

-----

Nishikido Ryo
Ninomiya-kun is a person who from the beginning did not let the axis of the role get blurred.

What they think about each other as actors

Ninomiya The face-to-face meeting and read through (reading the script together) are finally over.
Nishikido At the read through, I was really nervous! I always get nervous when I start a drama, but Ninomiya-kun's sense of stability was really amazing.
Ninomiya Nah, I was nervous too. But if I, the oldest son, looked like I wasn't reliable, Nishikido-kun and Toda (Erika)-san would get uneasy, so even if it was a lie I'll act confident! is what I thought (smile).
―What did you think when you first heard you'd be acting together?
Ninomiya It was really unusual!
Nishikido First, this is close to the first time I've worked with a sempai from the same company. I didn't intend at all to say, "Let's steal something," or, "Confrontation," or something, and I just said let's work our very hardest.
Ninomiya I myself, since a long time ago every time I've worked with a sempai they've helped me out a lot, so I thought now it might be time for me become strength as a sempai.
―Have you seen anything the other has appeared in? What kind of impression do you have from them?
Ninomiya I've seen 1 Litre of Tears and Attention Please. If anything, it's an impression of a kid whose sensitivity is sharp. Of course he has real ability, but because outside of that as well he has some kind of charm, like this, he's come to get roles people want.
Nishikido ...(shame) I've seen Haikei, Chichiue-sama. Um, my impression of Ninomiya-kun as an actor? What is it. What is it!?
Ninomiya It's hard, isn't it (smile)?
Nishikido Um, if I were to compare him to myself―His reviews and stuff are truly awe-inspiring, but (in making the role) unlike erratic me, he properly grasps the axis from the very beginning. Kind of like that, yes!
Ninomiya Even though we've said that, as far as how each other's acting will come out, an image hasn't yet appeared.

The person who suddenly spoiled the end of the story

Ninomiya That's right, when we went out to eat after Kanjani∞'s concert, he told me the ending ahead of time, this guy! Even though I hadn't read the original work yet (smile). "I wonder if that guy will do that and be like this in the drama too?" he said. Naturally.
Nishikido Personally, "What, you haven't read the original!?" is about what I was feeling, oppositely (smile). Even though at that time, I had Ninomiya-kun show me some magic and stuff, and we didn't really talk about the drama much (smile).
―The two of you are playing the clearheaded and reliable eldest, Kouichi, and the younger brother who relies on that older brother, Taisuke. Is there anywhere in each of your personalities you feel are "elder-brotherly" or "younger-brotherly"?
Nishikido Well, my attitude that when doing things like this

-----

Ninomiya Kazunari
Probably, as far as creating the role goes, he's a type that resembles me, I think.

I make sure to have Ninomiya-kun answer first (smile).
Ninomiya Do you actually have any siblings?
Nishikido I have two older brothers and a little sister. So it's pretty much a pretty much a set-up that resembles Taisuke's.
Ninomiya Some place where I'm elder-brotherly huh, I dunno! Although I actually have an older sister.
―But in things you've played in the past, you've played many older brother or brotherly senior roles. Surely you must have some kind of elder-brotherly element?
Ninomiya I don't know, but me not being an older brother means it's easy for me to get an image of the figure of an older brother.

Being bad at "waiting" is one of their points in common(!)

―What are you impressions of Toda Erika who is playing your younger sister, Shizuna.
Nishikido I thought she was a cute girl. At the face-to-face meeting, she showed up wearing a hat this huge!
Ninomiya It was really shiny? Performers really are different (smile). In the end Toda-san was the most adult, was my impression (smile).
Nishikido That's true. I guess you could say her behavior was calming.
―Now, how would you like to perform Kouichi and Taisuke?
Nishikido In the planning document it said, "high energy, low IQ," but won't that be exhausting (smile). I'd like to do my best to be enthusiastic!
Ninomiya I... If it's a role where "He's smart and his face leaves something to be desired," there's the model of my close older sister, so it'll be easy to grasp (smile). But, again, I don't know. They might listen to my selfish requests, but depending on how the younger two come at it, my role will probably change.
―The writer wrote Kouichi has a "pitiable face," didn't he (smile)?
Ninomiya Didn't he. Even though I normally don't intend to have such a pitiable face! Just, if Kudou (Kankurou)-san has seen my acting up to now, it's not really a mystery how he got that impression, is it? Because I've died countless times (smile).
Nishikido Taisuke is a guy who lives cheerfully even while shouldering the trauma of his parents being killed. Of course I don't have an experience that bad, but well I've had the experience of continuing smiling even in tough times. Taisuke too, I think he might be only be living with just a something good. Yeah.
Ninomiya Probably, I think, aren't the two of us are originally, the type to think about and firm up the role and then bring it to the set? We might resemble each other there.
Nishikido Also, we talked about, "So we won't push on set, let's do things quickly." We might resemble each other there, too (smile).
―Finally, fitting with "meteor," what would you wish on a falling star!?
Ninomiya (While holding his cards) I want to get better at magic!!
Nishikido (smile) I want to be taller!

Well, and, totally different from himself, too, I think. I'm glad he's gotten this role, because I think it'll be a much better indicator of his skills as an actor then Sousuke.

Thank you for reading (^^)

Thanks for sharing this! This will be an interesting drama for sure. I've never seen Nino in a serious drama, haha. Only Stand Up!! and Yamada Tarou Monogatari. So this will be interesting to see.

You know, you're the second person who's said to me they've never seen Nino in anything serious before, and I think about how many times he's broken my heart and destroyed my will to live and wonder how did you guys just happen to pick, like, the only two dramas that don't.

Thank you for reading (^^)

Heh, well, it's only recently that I've been majorly fangirling Arashi, so I never cared that much about watching Nino's drama before? I watched Stand Up!! cuz it's pretty much a classic, haha. Of course, I've been a Yamapi fangirl pretty much since I got into JE though I was originally baited in by Jun, haha, so a lot of my online friends would watch his old dramas- hence, Stand Up!! So it was only a matter of time until I watched it. As for Yamada Tarou, that was one that I actually watched as it came out. With two Arashi members in it and Sho being my favorite, I couldn't possibly pass it up. I was hooked from the first episode. It is. SO CUTE. So many cute little kids. ♥

But yeah, I've really heard next to nothing about Nino's other dramas. I just knew he was known for his acting. My knowledge of his past activities is so vague. ^_^''

Sorry for this overly long explanation, haha.

There's nothing wrong in not having seen much of Nino's filmography, especially because it is SO LONG, it just boggles me how people could pick at random from such a filmography the very few that don't make you want to die. (Well, and, if you think about it, there are some pretty dark themes in YamaTaro, too...) But I TOTALLY understand your love for YamaTaro, if it wasn't apparent from me gushing about it on my LJ every ten seconds :P

The thing about Nino's dramas is, he's been acting since he was 14, so there are definitely common elements in his characters from before that don't exist anymore (and I really do mourn the passing of tragically-in-love-with-older-woman), and he's in dramas of varying qualities, so.... There's a lot of variety? I've only met one drama I actually dislike, so maybe I'm not the easiest person to ask, but I like that you can see him be whiny!teenager and serious!adult both in his filmography. *shrugs*

I want to watch it again. It makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside when I watch it. ♥

Hmmm... So, if I wanted to watch some of his dramas, what would you recommend? Since there are, as you pointed out, so many. Do you have a favorite? Are they really *that* tragic? Like, One Liter of Tears, A Million Stars Fall from the Sky tragic?

(Reply to this) (Parent)(Thread)

[info]capncosmo
2008-09-29 01:11 pm UTC (link)
Well, the only one that's really *tragic* is Sukoshi wa, Ongeashi ga Dekita kana, in which he has cancer; most of his tend to be just painful rather than *tragic*. Like maybe nobody dies at the end (although sometimes they do), but there's still this horribly painful journey in between

Other than YamaTaro and Stand Up!!, which you've seen, I did really like Yasashii Jikan. It takes a little while to get going (and it never really is that fast paced, but that's kind of the point), but the story was good and the pain was *worth it*. For a not!painful one, I guess I'd say Akimahende! It's ridiculous, but it *knows* it's ridiculous, it's doing it on *purpose*. But I've seen almost all of Nino's dramas, and there aren't any I wouldn't watch again, so.

I started to watch his old ones about a month ago. His characters back then are really different from the current. I just finished Namida wo Fuite and Akimahende and I was shocked to see the difference. That was after watching Sukoshi wa..., Ao no Honoo, Yamada, and Stand Up. I love all of them, which makes me love him even more. Even though the roles are really different, you feel a common element for some reason.
I can't wait to watch more. Since you seen all of them, what should I pick next??? I've been debating for 2 days. Help me.
Oh and thanks for all of the translations. I didn't know Ryo was closed to "dark-natured" Nino.

Are you looking for a happy drama or a serious drama? You've already seen my favorites, for a serious one I'd say "Yasashii Jikan" and for a happy one "Netsuretsu Teki Chuuka Hanten" They both take couple of episodes to pick up, but I liked them a lot by halfway through. Although, I am digging "Handoku!!!" right now... (I'm only 4 episodes into that).

Thank you for reading (^^)

It doesn't really matter which type is. As long as Nino, or the other members are in it.
I will probably look at either Yasashii Jikan or Handoku next.
I've never heard of Netsuretsu Teki Chuuka Hanten. If I want that, where do I find it.

Ah! I wasn't thinking! Do you speak Japanese? Netsuretsu~ doesn't have English subtitles as far as I know... Handoku!!!'s English ones are pretty bad, but if you speak Chinese...? Sorry (-_-;) Well, and, actually, you wouldn't be able to use my source for Netsuretsu, either, but I'm pretty sure the have it on Arashian Files.

No. I'm kinda stuck on English. But I understand Japanese a little. I don't mind watching a drama without subs. And I don't mind bad English because I just end up ignoring them if I can tell they are bad. I don't think Netsuretsu is on Arashian. But I know Handoku and Yasashii Jikan are.
