For Ninomiya Kazunari 5 Questions

Q1 Why are you interested in card magic?
It happened when I saw a card magic DVD that it looked like no one had ever borrowed in the local video store. I thought, I bet the stocking clerk's game will be totally thrown off, and so I said, I guess I'll borrow it and see (smile).

Q2 You're famous as a gamer, but is there a title you've been into recently?
On XBOX, Bully. On PS3, Yakuza 3.

Q3 Do you watch any movies?
Recently I saw an old film. At 2010, I thought, there's no way this kind of future will be here in two years (smile). It was interesting.

Q4 Well, do you have anything you want right now?
Ummm... (Thinks about it for a while). I guess it would have to be cards (smile). They're something I use up, so I'd like as many as possible.

Q5 You're really into to card magic, aren't you?
But, it's not well received by girls, you know. Also, even if I do it in front of my drunk friends, it's not well received at all. I'm pretty fairly alone (smile).

In magic and dramas,
there's something that leads to each other

This Fall's drama is Higano Keigo's mystery novel. Further, the screenwriter it Kudou Kankurou, who is good at making developments at a good pace.

"What kind of drama it will become, I can't guess, but as a fan of Higashino-san and also Kankurou-san, I think it's a work I'd like to see myself."

But Ninomiya-san seems to have confidence he can act the part no matter what kind of script it is. The secret of that confidence is card magic. It's something he's into that is both a current hobby he has displayed many times even on TV and a special skill. Today also he showed me some of the tricks he's good at in the the studio in the interval between shooting.

"Okay, pick one card. Put it back for me wherever you like? Is this the card you just picked? Oh, it's not? That's weird, well, when I tap my finger here. Voila!"

The card I drew earlier was on the the very top. So the initial failure was an act.

"This past half year, I've been doing nothing but this everyday. While sorting it out from books mostly without pictures or illustrations, I use trial an error to figure out how to show it."

As he said that, he took the specialty book he always carries around with him from his bag. In there print was packed closely together.

"The work of making the embodiment of those characters resembles the the work of reading and sorting out what's in a script. For example, pretending to hit on the card that was just pulled and messing up once. One of the ways of taking the interval is the performance to make you wonder if I've really messed up, which is the same as the work picking out from between the lines of the script what kind of acting I should put [the lines] on top of. Because I've been doing this for half a year, my acting should be different from before (smile)."

It seems without any planning, his unusual hobby has been helpful to raising his acting skills. While joking around saying, "I think all actors should do magic," he laughed saying, "But then my tricks will be revealed, so the kind you can't learn from the book might be better."

"It's my first drama in a while, but I think people understand it's not like I've just been doing nothing that whole time."

While selling his skill at cards, he laughs fearlessly. This confidence is definitely not an act.

Born in 1983 in Tokyo. Blood Type A. Kazunari Ninomiya will star in his first serial drama in a year in Ryuusei no Kizuna (TBS) starting October. It's based on Higashino Keigo's novel of the same name. Screenwriter Kudou Kankurou will attempt writing a mystery for the first time. "It's my first drama in a while, but without getting worked up, I'd like to work to kindly built the bond between the siblings and make it a work that will gouge not everyone's reason but their instincts," he says, tackling it with a serious mood. Also appearing with him will be NEWS, Kanjani∞'s Nishikido Ryo.
