A I like them. I think it's good to be natural.

Q2 Do you want to get married?

A Depending on the partner, I might do it soon!?

Questions from Ninomiya-kun to Nishikido-kun

Q1 Well, what kind of girls are your type?

A Motherly people.

Q2 Girls you don't like?

A People who are not worried about their surroundings

------

Ninomiya-kun is training Nishikido-kun in magic!?

This day was the first day of rehearsal for Ryuusei no Kizuna. Ninomiya-kun and Nishikido-kun has just come running to the Non-no shoot earlier. Right away, they reflected on that for us!

Ninomiya When Nishikido-kun would do it several times, he would soon be told by the director, "That's good," so I was impressed. Even though it seems difficult because it's a high energy role.
Nishikido What are you talking about!? Weren't you right on from the beginning? I've by no means been able to grasp the sense of the role, and it's difficult.
Ninomiya But you know, since you've been playing serious roles in all your projects until now, it must be hard to suddenly play a high energy role. I had a period like that a while ago too, so I understand how you feel~.
Nishikido No, no. In order to keep up with Ninomiya-kun who has an abundance of experience, I'll do my best!

The impressions of their roles are a responsible older brother and a slightly mischievous younger brother, and the two of them are deeply into it. Have they always been this close?

Ninomiya We worked together when we were Juniors, but there was an unclear difference in generation. At the time, Nishikido-kun was singing in the middle of the Juniors, and I watched, thinking, "Oh, there's a kid who's good at singing."
Nishikido It's nostalgic. I remember well going in the bath with Ninomiya-kun and Kanjani∞'s Yokoyama-kun and Murakami-kun in the Junior's dorms.
Ninomiya Aiba-chan would also join us, and the 4 of us would take baths together a lot.
Nishikido From then on, we had surprisingly little interaction, only really talking properly after the drama was decided.
Ninomiya After Kanjani∞'s concert this summer, MatsuJun and Nishikido-kun called me to come out with them.
Nishikido That's where I first saw Ninomiya-kun do magic. I was surprised that he was really good!
Ninomiya It's okay, I'll train you too, so you'll get good at it (smile). I'll have you do it by yourself at the drama's end!

PROFILE
●Ninomiya Kazunari Born June 17th, 1983. Active as a member of Arashi. Plays the eldest brother, Ariake Kouichi, in the drama Ryuusei no Kizuna (TBS Every Friday 10PM).

Her cooking in your house.
It has potential, or no?

We also want to hear their love talk! To that end, we requested, "Ask each other questions having to do with love." Then, while being shy and saying, "But we don't talk about romance at all~", they came up with questions like the ones on the right hand page for us!

Ninomiya "Do you like girls like the readers of Non-no?"? What are you doing asking such a editorial department question~ (smile)? (Mean-spiritedly)
Nishikido (While being shy) I was thinking, like, what kind of girls are your type?
Ninomiya Mmm, I like people who are strong willed and don't flatter people. I think Non-no's natural feeling is good. What kind of person is your type?
Nishikido Uh, what kind? I like Kiera Knightly....
Ninomiya I get how you feel~, she certainly is cute! She was at her best at the time of Pirates of the Carribean 1, wasn't she~?
Nishikido Right (smile). But, I don't really have preferences, I always fall in love at first sight.
Ninomiya Hmm, well then, do you prefer pursuing or being pursued (wide grin)?
Nishikido I guess it's about 7:3 I like pursuing. What about you?
Ninomiya I don't mind either way, but coming on too strong is no good. For example, when I'm not home just coming over to my house and cooking of something... I don't think I'd like that.
Nishikido What, I would be happy and go to kiss her (smile)! I like people who have a home-y mother feeling to them. I also want to get married some day!
Ninomiya I don't have the desire to get married at all. So if the person I liked said she wanted to, I might do it surprisingly quickly. Well then, what kind of girls don't you like?
Nishikido I guess I don't like girls who are not worried about their surroundings.
Ninomiya Me too! Girls who are just sitting there looking bored by themselves while everyone is having fun, right? It's like, "Well, then why did you come?"!
Nishikido Because it makes the people around her upset too. My ideal is a person can accurately do things like greetings and consideration!

Ah, I think he means that since he doesn't care, if his SO was like, "I want to get married" then he'd just be like, "okay, whatever, sure." But, he *is* a pretty confusing guy sometimes :P

Thanks for reading (^^)

YAMADA TAROU. XD Yay~ *ahem* ANYway.

Hahaha, I love their love talk. Nino is just so...Nino. So amused. XD Poor Ryo-chan, his shyness is making his life difficult with all this promotion, haha.

Haha, I dunno if he meant YamaTaro, because he had a couple of high energy roles before that, like in Handoku!!!... Okay, well, most of the others really required him to overreact in a humorous fashion, not be genki, but :P

Thank you for reading (^^)

I think he meant Sukoshi wa, Ongaeshi ga Dekitakana, Letters from Iwo Jima and Marathon - all of which were serious/tragic roles and were in consecutive projects within a 2-year period.

So Yamada Taro was Nino understanding how Ryo must be feeling - having to switch to a more comic mode after doing a series of heavy roles.

That's what came to mind when I read that answer anyway :)

This is a belated thanks for all the RnK translations. They really enhance the fun of watching the series! Would you - by any chance - consider doing some summaries of TV appearances that are more detailed the ones you currently do now?

Um, from the phrasing of the original, it led me to believe that it was a long time ago, and Nino's early career consisted of several angry teenagerTM roles: Akimande!, Abunai Houkago, Namida wo Fuite, etc. (even his role in Nekketsu Ren-ai Dou was cranky, and that was a 15 minute Juniors drama.) His role in Handoku!!! was a complete 180 from that, and the character was really energetic. The role after that, Netsuretsu Teki Chuuka Hanten, was also a pretty upbeat guy, although not as energetic as in Handoku!!!.

I'm pretty sure by the time the period you're talking about rolled around, he was already pretty mature as an actor. I'm not saying you're wrong, I'm just thinking the word he used, lit. "a long time ago," implies more than a year has passed, and it's not like he had never played high tension roles before YamaTaro.

Thank you for reading! I usually do my summaries of TV shows when I don't have access to the files, though, so it's sometimes difficult to be more detailed, I'm sorry. Well, and also, I watch so much that it's hard to keep up. There's a subbing team at [info]ryuseinokizuna that is subbing a lot of their appearances, though...

Actually, I'll confess that the one summary/translation Ive been desperate to read is Nino's appearance on Hanamaru. I cant tell if Im just looking at the wrong places, or if they're in locked communities...but I cant seem to find a translation :(

It's ok though. Im glad you're sharing the magazine articles. They sound cute and always make me laugh.

Nino on Hanamaru? Hmmmm...

He talks about the corn mayonnaise bread he eats every morning, because if you drop mayonnaise on your clothes it won't come out, and it's easy for the corn to fall off, so you have to be awake to eat it. He says he eats the same thing every morning for up to about a year and a half, and the host ties it into the rest of his obsessive personality.

In the first three pictures he talks about the Taiwan concerts. Pictures 1 and 3 were at this biiiiig hotel where they had some kind of meeting with the fans, and then picture 2 was them praying for everyone's safety in the concert (those are all the Juniors in the second row). Usually in one of these situations you'd get a Shinto priest to wave his holy white paper over you and stuff, but they were told to do it themselves, so they did. Apparently they did this 2 years ago too, but they didn't for the 5 dome tour, and then Sho had the whole breaking bones incident, and they were like, "Ah, we should have done it!", so. He also talks about how a lot of the fans learn Japanese, so when they were doing the MC he was kind of worried since he's usually the tsukkomi role (the one who points out the stupidity and provides the punchline), and so he thought there'd be an an awkward pause between when he said it and when the translation caught up, but they actually laughed at the line, and he thought that was awesome, especially because it's not like you'd learn the words used for that in a textbook. They also ate those dumplings (xiao long bao?), like 70 or 80, under the logic that they don't get to eat them often, so they had to eat a whole year's worth. The dishes they came in piled up so high they couldn't see the people next to them.

The next picture is of cards, so of course the does some magic. He says that everyone was doing their own individual work, but he was sitting around doing nothing, so one day he went to the video store, and in a prominent place were these magic DVDs that is was obvious no one ever borrowed. He didn't want the clerks to be saying, "ha, our manager has no sense at all, putting videos no one ever borrows in the front," so he took them out. Of course, since then he's changed to using books, but. He says on days off he studies magic all day long, and talks about how he actually does magic shows for people.

He has a picture of the can he's been using to save 500 yen coins (I don't know if you saw his last appearance ~a year ago, but he had a picture of it then, too). He says it's gotten *super* heavy, so much so that he accidentally dropped it and broke something.

They had him rate the different aspects of his personality
Obsessiveness: 5
Cheap-ness: 4
Falls in love at first sight: 3
Old man-ness: 0
Likes to make plans: 3

He says he doesn't really think of himself as a planner, but he gets upset when things don't go the way he wanted, so he thinks he must be making plans on some level, or he wouldn't be upset they were broken. He also says people often tell him he's pretty old man-y, but he doesn't think so at all. He says Toda Erika says a lot, "you sound like my dad." For falls in love at first sight, he says on the train and stuff he'll see people and go on a date with them in his imagination.

Host: You ride the train?
Nino: I do, I do.
Host: Don't people often say, "Oh, it's Nino!"?
Nino: They do. [pause] But I am Nino, so there's nothing I can do about that.

They have a fax they read, where the person says it's a nice present to have his drama start on his mother's birthday, and he's like, "It is. I guess I don't have to get her anything else, huh?" and they're all like, "No, get your mom a birthday present!" He talks about Bananaman being in a comedy competition, but they didn't win, because there's a member of Bananaman in the cast.

Ryo says in the VTR that he thinks Nino doesn't have a surprising "real him," but rather that his TV personality is the same as his real personality. He also talks about how Nino has been having trouble with his lines, saying "Shizuna" with the wrong intonation. As an apology for messing up so much, he's treating all the staff to lunch. Nino says that he messed up 6 times on the intonation of her name alone. But he also says that Ryo will say to him, "that's wrong," but the one who's wrong most often is Ryo (b/c Kansai dialect's intonation is radically different from the Kanto character he's supposed to be playing).

OMG OMG OMG.
Ok...YOU? Are beyond awesome!
Thank you SO MUCH!!! I was expecting a link at best...and I got all this!! *speechless**
When I watched the ep, I only managed to get the gist of the conversation. You really helped to filled in all the gaps, so now I'm going to watch it again!

You know, when I first started watching Arashi back in the Jidai days, I didnt like Nino at all. I used to think he was just bratty and whiney. But he's developed such a mean wit and is so wonderfully snarky these days that he's now a favourite.

In RnK, when Nino is pissed or deadpans his insults...I'm convinced I'm in love :)

Thanks for this - you've made me smile. Again! *beam*

Haha, I, um, don't usually like to make general kind of promises, but if there's something in particular someone wants to see, I'll do it (^^) So, feel free to ask if it's something specific (^_~)/

You know, what I love most about Arashi is that they show us all these different sides of themselves, but the downside of that is that they get reduced to this flat "images" that cause a lot of misunderstandings. (Except Ohno; I think his image is pretty much right on :P) Especially the people who hate Jun, I'm like, "dudes, have you seen him on TV *other* than in HanaDan? Because I think you are conflating the actor and the role, seriously."

Ah, I love Koichi's snark+Nino's expressions too! At first I was kind of ?? about the casting choice (apparently there were no auditions/they were minimal?), but now I *totally understand* because he is the *perfect person* for this role (IMHO :P) Ah, and especially the last line of the trailer for episode 3, gosh, I nearly died laughing.

:D
